The Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists recently published a long-suppressed story, if true, that has horrifying ramifications.
During the Cuban Missile Crisis, a major in Okinawa authorized the release of nuclear weapons against a series of countries.
Which would have meant this–and probably the end of the world:
One man stood in his way.

Was the thing I most feared after the so called ‘cold war’ ended, (even though I don’t think it can ever end). A mistake…. The results of any launch would be the end… not just for our enemy but us too. ‘On the Beach’ was the nicest way of presenting it.
I just kept believing both sides weren’t suicidal. So here we are today… With more enemies and mistakes still can be made. So hopefully the right people observed that mistake and learned a thing or two. It almost sounds like a ‘Fail-Safe’ or ‘Red Alert’ scenario. Truth can sometimes be scarier than fiction.
