In the film THE DEAD OUTSIDE, civilization has fallen to an onslaught of a neurological disease that makes its victims paranoid and violent. April, a young girl with a horrible secret, and Daniel, desperate and plagued by loss, find each other on an isolated Scottish farm fortified against the infected. Then a stranger turns up, threatening the fragile equilibrium of their friendship.
THE DEAD OUTSIDE was a pleasant surprise; I liked this movie. It’s low budget, so there are few effects, everything occurs in the middle of nowhere, and many of the scenes are occasionally so dark it’s difficult to tell what’s going on. But it held my interest. The acting is decent, the story fairly compelling, and I particularly liked the plague victims, who show up shouting bizarre things as they try to force their way in. My only major complaint was the ending, which is supposed to resolve a major plot point or two but which I found completely undecipherable.
Check it out on Netflix.
