I broke my Kindle and I’m thinking about getting the Kobo, which offers a touch screen interface, fairly good eBook availability in my adopted land of Canada, and a decent price of $139. Have you tried the Kobo? What do you think of it? Has anybody heard when Amazon will catch up to Nook and Kobo and offer touch interface?
I have a Sony ebook. 129 dollars refurbed. It reads PDF, since I have most of my ebooks in that format I like it. Plus the battery lasts about a month without the need for a backlight, gotta love epaper!
Craig the one area that Kindle tries to separate itself is having supreme battery life while also having easy on the eye text and I believe a touch screen hampers that. So who knows. Sorry for the non answer but I guess all of these e-readers are give and take right now.
The nook just came out with a new b/w touch screen. It’s nice but doesn’t have near the features as the kindle 3. Not sold on touch screens for e-readers. Can’t image what the screen will look like after a years use. Really don’t like looking through screen protectors either. Can never get all the bubbles out and they never look crystal clear. Plus all the greasy figerprints to look through and the accidental page turns when touching the screen accidently. Ok I have a few hang ups, but I think Kindle 3 is still the best. Good luck on your choice, but Kobo would be my last choice if you ask me.
Thanks, Dan. The Nook isn’t a possibility, as I live in Canada, and there are intellectual property issues for eBooks crossing the border that results in terrible eBook availability. Canada’s version of Barnes and Noble, Chapters/Indigo, has adopted Kobo as its eReader. So for me it really boils down to Kobo or Kindle.
Kindle! Have you checked the repair costs with Amazon? Apparently they are very good.
I still like my Kindle…touch-screen interface would be nice, though.
