I AM NOT A SERIAL KILLER (2016) is an indie horror treat. Based on the novel of the same name, it tells the story of John, a teenage sociopath who is drawn to stalk and resist a monstrous serial killer while suppressing his own homicidal urges. Notable among the stars is Christopher Lloyd, who does a terrific job in his role.
I thought this film was a lot of fun. John is an intriguing character, a sociopath with the traits of a budding serial killer, but who resists his darker urges by following a simple set of rules that allow him to get by. He ends up crossing paths with a real serial killer who can feel, perhaps feels too much, and who kills seemingly out of love. This juxtaposition, and their hunting of each other, drives the story, which wraps up with a surprising and satisfying ending.
Highly recommended if you like slower-burn, thought-provoking horror shot in a cinema vérité style.
