I recently enjoyed a private screening of GUT, a feature-length horror film that is making the rounds at the major horror festivals and is now available as a paid download at a number of video streaming websites.
The story focuses on two men, Tom and Dan, who are old friends and now work at the same company. Tom is a devoted family man with a wife and child but is facing a midlife crisis. Something seems to be missing from his life. Dan is single and still living in the past.
One day, over lunch, he says he has the perfect solution to Tom’s malaise (and his own loneliness as he faces the fact of his fading friendship with Tom). A video.
The video seriously disturbs Tom and binds him and Dan to its ugly secret.
At times, GUT is as gruesome and disturbing as its title suggests, despite there being little actual gore, and for an indie film that is a little rough around the edges, it does a great job building and maintaining tension. The ending was a little pat for me but overall I liked it.
The official website offers more information and links to video streaming websites where you can watch it anytime.
