Contagion, An End Of The World Simulator

April 22, 2016 by Craig DiLouie Leave a Comment

THE COLLAPSE is a web-based simulator that starts with you–Patient Zero in a smallpox pandemic.

Type in your address, and the simulator places you on a map. It then asks you questions about what you want to do in response to symptoms, riots and food shortages, and so on. As you travel, you spread the pathogen around your community until it jumps to other cities and then around the world. Along the way, you’re given frightening facts about pandemics.

THE COLLAPSE is a promotion for a new game by Ubisoft, THE DIVISION, that came out in March.

And if you’re interested in what a real pandemic of a novel strain of influenza would look like, be sure to check out my work THE THIN WHITE LINE, available for free here.

Here’s a screenshot of me infecting everybody at Calgary Rockview Hospital. Sorry about that! 🙁

THE THIN WHITE LINE Named To The Ultimate Reading List For Nurses

April 11, 2014 by Craig DiLouie Leave a Comment

The Thin White Line by Craig DiLouieLPStoBSNonline.org has published a list of some 100 books as part of its ultimate reading list for nurses–“some of the most respected and widely read books about nursing from an assortment of genres”–and included my self-published book, THE THIN WHITE LINE. Previously, this book was named to LVNtoRN.net’s Top 50 Must-Read Books for Nurses in 2012.

Written in 2008, THE THIN WHITE LINE reads like a fictional history of a severe influenza pandemic occurring in 2012. In other words, it’s fictional but reads like non-fiction, dense with well-researched technical detail about what a flu pandemic would actually look like in a Western country, including the difficulties healthcare providers would face under the constant stress of overwork, isolation of quarantine and risk of infection.

It’s a real honor to see my fiction recognized in this way! Thanks for including THE THIN WHITE LINE in the list!

JARKARTA PANDEMIC Bonus Material

June 21, 2012 by Craig DiLouie Leave a Comment

jakarta pandemic by steven konkolyIf you’re a fan of Steven Konkoly’s work, notably his JARKARTA PANDEMIC, a fictional account of a man trying to keep his family safe as the world collapses due to a pandemic of a deadly flu–or even if you’ve never read this book before–you’re in for a real treat. Konkoly has issued an additional 30,000 words (which were cut from the original publication, making the total work 170,000 words) for free. He is also promoting my self-published pandemic scenario THE THIN WHITE LINE as an additional free bonus feature and an ideal companion to his book.

Steven’s a great guy and his books are very popular on Amazon; check out the bonus material for JAKARTA PANDEMIC at his blog here.

THE THIN WHITE LINE Named To Top 50 Must-Read Books For Nurses

June 5, 2012 by Craig DiLouie Leave a Comment

Must Read Nursing BooksRecently, I posted an announcement that THE THIN WHITE LINE, my fictional history of a severe influenza pandemic, was nominated by LVNtoRN.net–a website for nurses and nursing students–to its Top 50 Must-Read Books for Nurses in 2012 list. I’m now proud to announce that the book was accepted to this prestigious list in its fiction category. THE THIN WHITE LINE presents a very detailed scenario about the difficulties healthcare professionals would face under the constant stress of overwork, isolation of quarantine and risk of infection, based on meticulous research.

Nursing Website Nominates THE THIN WHITE LINE As One Of Top 50 Must-Read Books For Nurses In 2012

May 29, 2012 by Craig DiLouie Leave a Comment

The Thin White Line by Craig DiLouieI just received a letter from LVNtoRN.net, a website providing a resource for nurses and nursing students. They are developing a list of notable books called the Top 50 Must-Read Books for Nurses in 2012, and let me know that THE THIN WHITE LINE has been nominated for the list. This is obviously a serious honor to even be considered. I’m glad they recognized the research that went into the writing for the book, which presents a speculative but almost nonfiction-style view of what a major flu pandemic might really look like. Michael Coston, a retired paramedic who runs the site Avian Flu Diary, called it “an unflinching, realistic and informative look at how Canada might fare during a pandemic.”

THE THIN WHITE LINE, which I self published, is available in paperback at Amazon, but you can get it free for eBook here.
